BIOGAS PLANT

Are you looking for a way to store your biogas, carbon dioxide or another gas? Membrane Systems Europe can help you! Membrane Systems Europe has several biogas plant solutions for covering your tank filled with biogas, carbon dioxide or possible other gasses.

Membrane Systems Europe offers different types of biogas plant systems. The different systems are: single membrane, double membrane and biogas dome. We can help you find the best suited biogas plant system!

The first two types of biogas systems, single and double membrane, are cover solutions for an existing biogas tank which will be covered with our single membrane cover or double membrane cover.

WHAT IS A BIOGAS PLANT?

A biogas plant, also called a biogas factory, plant or power station, is a facility that ferments organic material to produce biogas. Biogas is a mixture of gases, consisting mainly of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2), produced from the anaerobic (oxygen-free) decomposition of organic material by bacteria in a biological process called fermentation. A biogas plant can vary in size and complexity, depending on the feedstock available, the intended uses of the biogas produced and the technological capabilities of the plant. In general, a biogas plant
plays an important role in producing renewable energy, reducing waste and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Single membrane

A single membrane is used in a storage tank with a central column in the middle. The single membrane will be attached to this column. The height and diameter of the tank will be measured exactly and with these data, the single membrane cover will be manufactured especially for every order in which we keep the local circumstances, like weather conditions (e.g.) in mind. The single membrane can be designed for all types of tanks, for example, steel, glass-fused-steel or concrete tanks. The single membrane covers are all made of material that is fire resistant, sun resistant, UV resistant and reinforced.

Double membrane

The double membrane is used in a biogas tank which is covered with two separate membranes, blown up by air. The double membranes are always 100% frequency welded, this means the quality of the welding is state of the art. This type of biogas tank is available up until a diameter of 50 meter. There are 3 critical components to keep a stable pressure between the membranes:

  • Blowers
  • Air supply system
  • Air relief system

The blowers make sure there is always enough air blown between the two membranes. For further stabilization of the air pressure, the air supply system and air relief system are always installed.

Biogas dome

A third type of biogas installations are the biogas domes. These are also systems to store biogas, carbon dioxide or other possible gasses. This biogas production plant consists of three separate membranes:

  • A bottom membrane
  • An internal membrane
  • An external membrane

The gas is stored between the internal membrane and bottom membrane. For this biogas production plant, you do not need a concrete tank, because the biogas domes are built on a concrete base. Just like the double membrane tanks, this tank is held up by air pressure. For the biogas domes the air is blown between the internal membrane and the external membrane. This way the dome shape is formed. Thanks to the air pressure, the tank can hold its shape in various conditions. The biogas domes can be used for several uses, for example solid waste processing facilities, sewage water and sludge treatment facilities, agricultural waste treatment projects and agricultural and industrial biogas installations. Just like the double membrane cover, the biogas domes come with 3 critical components to keep a stable pressure between the membranes:

  • Blowers
  • Air supply system
  • Air relief system

This way the air pressure is always correct.

All storage systems Membrane Systems Europe produces are exclusively manufactured from advanced structural fabrics and designed as membranes to provide structural (climatic) stability as well as impermeable gas storage. If you are in need of more information or if we can help you with anything, please make sure to contact us. We are more than happy to help you find the perfect gas storage solution.

THE BENEFITS OF A BIOGAS PLANT:

  1. Renewable Energy Production: A biogas plant produces biogas by fermenting organic
material, providing a renewable and sustainable source of energy.
  2. Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions: The use of biogas reduces greenhouse gas
emissions, such as methane, by converting the organic material into biogas instead of what
would naturally decompose and release methane.
  3. Waste Reduction and Waste Management: A biogas plant provides a waste management
solution by converting organic waste, such as food waste, manure and agricultural waste, into
usable energy sources, thereby reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.
  4. Benefits for Agriculture and Land Use: A biogas plant can help farms process their waste
products into valuable fertilisers and biogas, reducing the need for external fertilisers and
    improving land use efficiency.
  5. Economic Opportunities: A biogas plant can provide economic benefits by producing biogas
for power generation, creating jobs in the renewable energy sector and boosting local
    economies.
  6. Flexibility in Fuel Sources: A biogas plant can use a variety of organic materials as feedstock
for biogas production, making them flexible in using different fuel sources.
  7. Local Energy Production: A biogas plant enables communities to produce their own energy at
the local level, reducing dependence on external energy sources and increasing energy security.
  8. Strengthening the Circular Economy: A biogas plant contributes to the development of a
circular economy by converting organic waste into valuable products, such as energy and
fertilisers, thus closing the resource cycle.
